Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

You just bought a new Xiaomi device. You inserted a SIM card and then you saw a Xiaomi SIM activation service error saying that the device could not activate the SIM card. This issue can be frustrating as it keeps telling you what happens without telling you why it happens.

We are here to help. Below, we listed several methods to solve the error.

Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

Why does the error happen? More likely than not, it is because the SIM card is trying to verify the number and activate Mi Messaging by sending a message Xiaomi but fails to do so. Fortunately, there are ways to solve this error.

1 Re-insert your SIM card

When you face a Xiaomi SIM activation service error, it might be because you didn’t insert the SIM card properly. So the first thing you should do is to re-insert your SIM card.

Remove the SIM card, insert it again, and see if the notification still appears. If it still appears, try the next methods.

2  up your balance or activate international messaging

The error that you face when activating SIM card Xiaomi might be because your device is unable to send the verification to Xiaomi but failed because there is not enough balance.

The obvious solution is, of course, either to top up your balance if you are a prepaid subscriber or activate international messaging on the device if you are a post-paid subscriber. By doing either of these, your SIM will be able to send the verification.

We don’t recommend this method, however. Why? Because when you are activating SIM card Xiaomi this way, it might solve the issue but the cost will be charged to your account.  There are better, free-of-charge methods below.

3 Turn off Mi Messaging

The third method to solve Xiaomi activating SIM card issue is to turn off Mi Messaging on your device.

Here’s how to turn off Mi Messaging.

  1. Open Messaging.
  2. Press and hold the menu button to enter Message Settings.
  3. On the Message Settings screen, you should see the toggles to turn ON and OFF the Mi Message.
  4. Tap the toggle and turn Mi Message to OFF.

This method is not without a downside, however. It might solve Xiaomi activating SIM card issue but since you turn off Mi Messaging, you won’t be able to use it for free texting.

(Note: Texting free of charge is only applicable to people who also use MIUI and are connected to the Internet)

4 Log in with your Mi Account

Logging in with your Mi Account might solve the Xiaomi SIM activation problem as well.

Here’s how to do so.

  1. Go to i.mi.com.
  2. Click on “Sign in with Mi Account”.
  3. Enter your Mi Account, email, or phone number.
  4. Enter your password, then click “Sign in”.

If you don’t have a Mi Account yet, Click “Sign up” on the login page and make your account.

This can solve your Xiaomi SIM activation problem as your SIM number will be verified similar to the second method.

The difference is that, unlike the second method in which your device sent an SMS for verification, Xiaomi is the one sending the SMS. This means you will not be charged for the international SMS.

If you tried this method and receive a message with jumbled letters or numbers instead of a verification code, put your SIM card on another device then send the code again.

5 Make sure that entered the correct phone number in your account

If you still see a Xiaomi SIM activation service error, it might be because you are entering the wrong phone number.

So check the phone number in your Mi Account. Make sure that the number is the same as your SIM card number.
